    The Small Coffeemaker That Could
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I don’t make coffee at home for myself anymore, so I’d given my 6-8 cup coffeemaker away. But, my parents were coming to visit, and they rely on coffee fixes throughout the day, so I had to get another machine for their visit.

Luckily, the Mr. Coffee 4-cup Coffeemaker was the perfect solution. I -chose- it because it was inexpensive, small, and had decent reviews. I’m -recommending- it because it made very respectable coffee — coffee as excellent as my previous machine (a nice Braun), really!

This is a fantastic small machine for a household of one or two coffee drinkers who drink a cup or two at a time. It also discourages the wasteful practice of making too much coffee, only for it to turn acrid sitting on the burner.

Proven Brand at a Bargain Price

I’ve owned an older generation 4-cup Mr. Coffee maker, and used it daily for 12 years. It worked perfectly! (I retired it only because it was getting too dirty to clean, after 12 years of use.) Incredible!

This newer sibling to the tried-and-right is thus far living up to the task, and very well I might add. I like how the lighted on/off switch is located on the front of the coffee maker, not hidden on the side where you have to feel for where it’s placed. The reusable filter (included) is a nice extra – costing about 4 bucks if you buy separately. And it’s much more convenient than the paper filters.

By the way, don’t waste your money on a model with a timer. It’s small 4-cup capacity brews a full pot in only five or six minutes. Simply click it on as soon as you wake up, and before you know it, coffee’s ready!

I can whole-heartedly recommend Mr. Coffee. Anyone who can produce a coffee maker that lasts for 12 years has my vote!

Note: If you use a regular sized coffee mug and not the dainty small cups, you’ll get about 2 1/2 servings per pot… just FYI.

    HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
For many years I had a Mr. Coffee 4-cup coffeemaker and was completely satisfied. Then the carafe broke and I went to replace it. The box said the carafe fit 4-cup and 5-cup machines, so I bought it. Well, it didn’t fit my model. That was my first issue with Mr. Coffee. Why say a carafe fits all pots when it doesn’t? Anyway, it seemed cheaper to just buy this new one. What a disappointment. The ancient model was MUCH better. The design on this is flawed. To start with, the green on light is hard to detect depending on the ambient lighting, leading to it being left on with an empty pot. When pouring coffee, one must tip up the lid to prevent dripping but then the heat from the coffee burns the hand. This model is a step backwards. The older model was better designed and more durable. I had mine for many years without incident. If I could find the right carafe for my ancient one, I’d toss this.

    No bells and whistles

This is a coffee maker for a person who only requires two mugs of coffee per day. No clocks, timers, etc. Just plug it in and turn it on. When finished, switch it off. I did not experience any of the problems, such as dribbling, that some reviewers reported. It is a excellent, basic, no frills coffee maker.

    excellent overall, perfect for two
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this coffeemaker to replace the ancient one I had bought in 2004 from Target. Can’t find it now in stores. It is a perfect machine for two people who only drink one morning cup of coffee. It took a small getting used to the taste of drip again (after I accidentally broke my original one, I started making coffee in a moka pot, which produces fantastic coffee, but the logistics is oft a pain in the toukas). But except for the slight difference in taste, I like this coffee maker!

The heat plate grows rusty within few month
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Two years ago, I brought it and like it. I drink coffee in the morning, so only used it only once a day. Six month after I brought it, its heat plate started growing rusty. I continuely used it for additional six month when the 50% heat plate was rusted. I thought it was an incidence, so I threw it away and brought the same model again. Nine month late, 20% heat plate is rusted…. This time I don’t reckon it is a incidence again.

    A fantastic replacement
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I finally had to admit: My Krupps 4-cup coffee maker no longer made excellent coffee. I faithfully cleaned it with vinegar, kept coffee oils wiped off, but to no avail. After weeks I had to admit that the “Folger’s in my cup” no longer had the power to make me sing. I turned to Community coffee–egads! How was this possible? Even my strong Louisiana coffee was lacking. Then I tried Starbuck’s. No deal there either. OK, it’s my ancient coffee maker, I thought. That made me sad–my long-time companion had to go.

I searched everywhere and finally settled on Mr. Coffee TF4-4-cup Switch Coffeemaker, white, of course, and couldn’t be more pleased! With the very first cup, I was back in business–the business of taste and looking forward to that cup in the morning. I should say mug (equals about one and 1/2 cups of regular-sized coffee cups).

Here are the reasons I like this new coffee maker:

    1. It is simple and convenient to lift the lid and place the filter.

    2. Of course, putting coffee into the filter is simple, too!

    3. What is superior about this unit is the water-free pour into the small tank. Sometimes I spilled a few drops of water with my ancient unit, but Mr. Coffee’s carafe is designed to prevent spillage. The shape of the spout allows a excellent pour from one unit into the other.

    4. The light right in front is an simple signal that the unit is either on or off.

    5. Cleaning the unit is simple: Remove filter, remove basket, swipe through dishwater or rinse under running faucet, return to basket-holder.

    6. But here’s the best reason: Mr. Coffee makes a fantastic pot of coffee!!

Now I can sing again: The best thing about waking up is Folger’s in my cup and Mr. Coffee on my counter!!

Carafe Handle Broke After A Few Months of Use!
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I like the smallness of this unit, particularly as I am the only coffee-drinking person in the household! It is simple to use and simple to clean. Fantastic for a quick morning coffee!

But I was very disappointed after purchasing this some months ago when the handle of the carafe became ‘unattached’, making it but unusable. I unsuccessfully tried many times to reattach it, which didn’t work.

I have since bought another brand – A gorgeous Cooks brand from JC Penney on sale. Hopefully more luck with this one!

  9. Outdoor Says:

    Poorly Designed
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The carafe is poorly designed and it’s nearly impossible to pour a cup of coffee without spilling. The same holds right if you use the carafe to fill the water reservoir. When removing the carafe to pour a cup of coffee during brewing, the maker drips onto the hot-plate causing burning on the plate – contrary to what the manufacturer declares. The cover needs to be closed to keep the coffee basket from pushing up when you place the carafe under the drip maker. We bought this for our camper. When we realized how much of a mess it made to make a couple cups of coffee, we place our house coffee maker in the camper. It’s messy and not worth the time for a couple cups of coffee. I recommend looking for something other than this model.

Had for years, still works fantastic!!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have had this coffee maker for years, so maybe it is the fact that they made them better back then LOL(5 yrs ancient approx). Just like several said takes a small longer to brew, allow time for it. I use filtered water always! Coffee tastes better. Am looking to buy another to keep at relatives that do not have a coffee maker, will not be hard for them to store.

Mr. Coffee TF4 4-Cup Switch Coffeemaker, White – Ordered a white model, Amazon kept sending me a black model; Ordered as a gift, black model was returned, never used, this happened three times and then I gave up on Amazon.com. The one star rating is against Amazon, NOT the coffee maker.

Fantastic hotel room size coffee maker
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I like this small coffee maker! I keep this in my home office to make small pots of coffee for me, especially nice when I am using flavored or premium coffees that I only want to delight in a cup or two. Additionally, when I stay at hotels, I keep the mini coffee filters supplied with the room and use them in this pot at home. Very simple to clean and does not take up much space.

I got this as a gift from my mother after she heard me complain about the coffee maker I had (another brand). This Mr. Coffee model is half the price of my ancient one, and I like it much, much better. It’s small, simple to use, simple to clean, and makes excellent coffee. Perfect for one or two people.

    It Dribbles
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Mr Coffee has been making coffee pots for awhile, so I thought I could just trust the brand name and get a excellent coffee pot. That assumption proved to be fake. The main thing I was seeking in a coffee pot is a pot that does not dribble from the glass pot when you pour it. I have entertained the thought that it is somehow my fault that some coffee pots dribble when I use them, and in that vein have conducted experiments in which I changed the angle and speed of pouring. All I want is for all the coffee to go into the cup, and not dribble down the side of the pot and on to the kitchen counter. It does not seem like too much to question! I have come to the conclusion it is not me, at least with this coffee pot, and that there is likely a design flaw in play.

Speaking of design flaws, I have also noticed that this coffee pot accumulates a lots of moisture in the inside top of the coffee pot. If you do not wipe it down between uses, it will sometimes make a small stream of ancient water that will dribble down when you open the lid to make a fresh pot of coffee.

If I ever find a coffee pot that says “Guaranteed not to dribble!” I will certainly give it a try. This is not that coffee pot. Not recommended.

    Fine Small Pot
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is one fine small coffee pot. It was inexpensive, small, yet has all the features. It doesn’t take up a lot of counter space, makes just the right amount of coffee, and has all of the features of a larger pot. The only thing I will say is that it doesn’t hold up well to repeated dissection and cleaning. I always like my coffee pots to be perfectly clean and look like groundbreaking new. Because this one was so inexpensive, since it doesn’t dissect and clean easily, I will just toss it and go buy another one.

Looks excellent until it drips and splatters during pause and pour
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Fantastic size, nice design, aesthetically. But it drips onto the warming plate every time that you make it pause to pour during brewing, which gradually erodes the surface of that plate and makes the carafe stick to it. It often splatters when you pour from the carafe even after brewing stops. So you end up with coffee splatters all over the coffeemaker and counter. Best alternative: Look for one of the discontinued Krups models on eBay. Groundbreaking new ones show up occasionally, even. You’ll pay the original, new cost ($40), but they’re the only 4-cup models that ever worked fully, without drips and spatters, of the 3 or 5 brands that I’ve tried.

    coffee confusion
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
My confusion is that the item is called Sunbean, yet the one I recieved is a Mr. Coffee. Are these one and the same? It did arrive in a timely manner from the retailer. But, the manufacurer needs to bump up the heat. The coffee comes out a small on the cool side, especially if you are adding milk straight from the fridge.

    Fantastic small coffeemaker!
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this small gem when I was on an extended stay at a friends house where they didn’t drink coffee. It was inexpensive and brewed 2-4 cups which is perfect for one person. I liked this small thing so much I took it home with me. The coffee brewed quickly, tasted excellent and was decently warm.

The only problems were finding the right size filters since the 8-10 cup filters bunch up and cause a mess. I would buy a couple of bundles of filters at a time when I found them. The other problem was that the digital timer lost time. It seemed to fall about 10 minutes behind each day so after a week it was really off!

When my fiance and I went in together, we shared this appliance in our small apartment where it’s compact size was perfect for our micro-kitchen. It was also simple to store on a shelf when not in use.

I bought this in Aug/Sep 2005 and then yesterday it just stopped working for no apparent reason. I certainly feel I got more than my money’s worth out of it but we are now buying a 10 cup coffee maker anyway.

    Like this Coffee Machine
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
It seems that in NYC is very hard to find the 1-4 cup coffee machine. I wanted a smaller coffee machine for quite sometime and I couldn’t find one. My daughter gave me one last year as a Christmas gift, but the smallest she found was an 8 cup one. I like the Mr. Coffee brand and the programmable feature. I wake up in the morning with the smell of freshly brewed coffee coming from the kitchen. This one works dilligently, like a small maid.

    Mr. Coffee 4 Cup
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Fantastic small coffee maker. Does not take up too much room and does the job. I even use it for making tea. Just hold off on putting pot underneath for a few minutes before level gets too high in strainer. Only reason I did not give it a top rating was it did not have an automatic off timer.

    No problems.
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
For anyone who can get by with only 4 cups of coffee Ive found this to be a fantastic product. Before I was married I always used one every morning. Now, I have one that I take on trips with us. It makes a fantastic cup of coffee without having to worry about all the gizmos that people criticize [as having various problems] in the reviews of most larger multi-function coffee pots.

    A fantastic 4 cup coffee maker !
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have owned several Mr. Coffee 4 cup models, going back to the one that looks like it was made in the 1970′s (with the floating orange water indicator) – This one is the best one to date.

    The high points:

    1) It’s small and light

    2) While the lid is up, the water will simply cycle through the resovoir ( a fantastic way to preheat your water is to simply keep the lid up while the machine is running until it gets (quite) hot – then close the lid. )

    3) It came with a re-usable basket filter (a nice feature considering the machine was only ~ 20$)

    The negative

    1) The carafe is just a tad hard to pour from. Do not get me incorrect, if you concentrate and proceed with caution, it does function without error. But, without due attention you might notice some drops spilling over the edge. That said, when pouring out the last few ounces at the end you will feel the steam/vapor rising up to your hand – it is HOT.

For $20, I would reccomend it to everyone I know as the perfect 4 cup maker.

simple to use but not sure how long it last
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This does the trick if you are looking for a very inexpensive coffee maker. Its really plastic but and on the one sent to me the top cover doesnt completely close. That doesnt seem to affect the coffee but quite a lot of steam gets lost in the process. For the price I cannot complain but I also suspect I will be replacing this in a year.

    nice coffee maker
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I am a one cup a day coffee drinker & this one does the trick! I like the warming plate & the size. I have had mine for a couple of years & it has never had a problem. It isn’t anything special to look at but it isn’t hideous either.

My only complaint is as a health conscious person, I am concerned about using the bleached disposible filters & I cannot find unbleached filters in stores nor a reusable filter insert that will fit. I am considering purchasing a larger coffee maker just for that reason.

But in the meantime, this is an adequate, no frills but very reliable machine.

  25. Peak Gazer Says:

    Does the job.
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
With my forced switch to decaf I needed a small coffee maker that would make two real cups (4 coffee maker cups). The Melitta take2me is a rather large machine, and was problematic in the consumer reviews. I couldn’t find a Black & Decker Brew n’ Go to look at. The TF4 is a small, very basic machine that brews as well as our larger coffee makers. The pause and pour feature works reasonably well. It uses the small basket filters. It’s simple to clean. It does, but, require about five and a half minutes to brew a full pot. So far it is well worth the $15 invested.
