DeLonghi EC5 Steam-Driven 4-Cup Espresso and Cappuccino Maker, Black
I can make my favorite coffee house drink at home, anytime I want and I save a small fortune! Simple to operate. Wish the foam spout was more flexable and a bit longer but it gets the job done.

Country of manufacture: NOT Italy
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This rating is in no way based on really using the machine. I ordered this machine thinking, “A cheap espresso machine NOT made in China? Too excellent to be right!” Indeed, I was right. Although the “country of manufacture” info given on Amazon says Italy, the machine itself says: Made in P.R.C. right on the bottom. That = People’s Republic of China = Made in China. I try my best not to buy goods made in China, especially not large plastic things! So, alas, although I anticipated this machine’s arrival, I will not be using it.

Cheaply made but OK in a pinch
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
We have a different primary home model that we use daily and only bought this for traveling. I feel it’s very cheaply made and find it disappointing that you need to add water each time you want to brew. We made it work but would never have this as our primary home espresso maker.

Using for 5 years and like it, bought a second for the office
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I like this small machine! I bought the first one in 2004 after reading brilliant reviews on the “crema” quality. We’ve used this machine everyday for the last 5 years and look forward to it every morning. I’m an Americano drinker and have found the way to get the strongest, smoothest flavor from this machine is to pull a double shot, then add half an inch of boiling water, then cream. Tasty! Here in Seattle, I use local Lighthouse Roasters or Longbeach Roasters coffee beans at home. The freshness of these high quality coffees makes our home espresso drinks as excellent as we’d get at a cafe. The second machine I just bought today is for the office, where I’ve been spending way too much money running to the corner cafe for coffee in the afternoon. Since I bought our first machine 5 years ago, the price of this unit has dropped by half (I paid $65 for the first one). I’m hoping the popularity of the machine has allowed DeLonghi to drop the price and not the quality.
Side Note: I have never used the frothing wand on this machine and have heard the milk steaming/frothing capacity is low. The steam pressure, in relation to coffee quality, makes the most flavorful shots the first 2 runs. Give the machine a break of 10 minutes or so before turning on another steam cycle. For us at home, this is the amount of time it takes to drink our first cup, so the timing works out perfectly.

Fantastic quality, terrible engineering
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The build quality of this model is incredible. I just bought a similar Mr. Coffee model which is cheaply built. It broke and I had to return it. This DeLonghi feels solid. Only problem is that it is nearly impossible to froth milk with it. If they could make the frothing mechanism more flexible like the Breville models, place it higher up, this would be incredible… I’m really sad I had to return it. I could see that this would be OK if you have a nice frothing beaker that is honestly small, but otherwise, I would not recommend this product. I hope they read amazon reviews.

Couldn’t make it steam milk. Finally gave up.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The first one of these that I ordered was returned because it didn’t heat up. Its replacement was just as terrible. I tried several times to make cappuccino and there wasn’t enough steam to even heat the milk, let alone froth it. The last time I tried (about the 4th), there wasn’t any steam at all, even though I place in water way up past the steam marking on the carafe. I’m sending this one back for a refund. It did work fine for expresso, but that’s not what I bought it for.

Fantastic Espresso Maker
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought the Delonghi EC5 to replace my Mr Coffee Espresso Machine that chose to spew steaming hot water all over rather than into the cup.
This new guy works really well, the only thing I need to work out is getting more out of it. I’ve yet to push the limit of the reservoir. But overall it has been really impressive.

Unit makes a decent cup but it’s a small inconvenient to make one. My Mr. Coffee did a much better job, but they no longer make that model.

Fantastic Product for the Price!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Wanted fantastic tasting cappuccinos and lattes without the headache sticker price of most espresso machines. Foamer works fantastic (could be longer, only complain) and shots of espresso come out perfectly.

So…So
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
You can’t steam milk and make coffee at the same time (that’s for sure). The expresso comes out flat with no foam on the top. The coffee is OK for a latte type drink. I would not reccommend it for expresso drinkers.

Fantastic Espresso-Awesome Price!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
There is probably not a better espresso machine in existence for the money! Sure you can spend a few hundred dollars, but with this small gem, there is no need. I am very pleased with this buy- it is a solid machine that is simple to use and one heck of a fantastic cup of espresso. Thats my opinion, but it could be the caffeine talking- ha ha ha! Buy it!

I wouldn’t reccomend this product. It doesn’t heat well at all, and it runs out of steam before the mild is even room temperature.

Does not froth milk

The expresso part of this machine works fantastic, but it does not generate enough steam to froth the milk. Very disappointing, would not recommend this product.

Cheep plastic Steam Nnob melted on first use, where is the safety ? The ancient saying you get what you pay for is right here. Price looks excellent, the the Quality is very poor. If you want a Espresso Maker pay the price and get a quality one.

Not fantastic
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
While the machine may make 4 espresso shots it only steams one cup of milk per 4 shots. Very ineffective when everyone wants a latte. I wish I had bought the Mr. Coffee.

Excellent Value, Excellent Quality
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
i’ve owned this product for several years now. it may be plastic, but don’t let that fool you. for the inexpert, this machine is super simple to use. and for the expert barista like myself, the espresso tastes pretty darned excellent. i make a mocha nearly every morning. i don’t use the frothing wand ’cause i’m used to a high-powered one. i heat my milk on the stove or in the microwave. for this price, it’s worth the money. lately, but, i have noticed the steam is escaping from the lid. which means, i reckon, the seal is not working properly. but, i’ve gotten what i paid for out of it, which was about the same price as amazon. like i said, i’ve had this machine for several years. and for a delonghi product, the quality can’t be beat!

OOOOHHHH YYYEEESSSSHHHHH!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
OOOOHHH yyyeesssh, our ancient espresso maker broke and we were without… we went on a hunt and after 4 finds that didn’t cut it we finally found it. This wonderful inexpensive gorgeous machine has done it. From the first cup we knew that we had a winner. Rich and strong, smooth not bitter, so ends our search and the saga of the “Days without Excellent Coffee” PS: Sadly I’ll miss the people at the shop, but we can always visit for different reasons…can’t we???DeLonghi EC5 Steam-Driven 4-Cup Espresso and Cappuccino Maker, Black

DeLonghi Espresso Maker.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I got this as a birthday present (my 56th). I have wanted an espresso machine for a long time. The cost but, was prohibitive. This small machine is under $50.00 USD. Don’t let the low price place you off. It makes some mighty fine espresso and cappuccino. It’s very simple to use. The only thing I don’t like about it is the lid for the espresso pot. If you use the lid (and you don’t really have to) it makes getting the pot under the filter clumsy. I’ve been using illa coffee in the machine. Makes a excellent cup of espresso every time.

It’s really fantastic. I loved my machine, but, I have to warm the cups before making the coffee, otherwise, until the proccess ends, the coffee won’t be that hot.

Not as terrible as you reckon
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this product about 3 years ago, I couldn’t figure out how to use it so I gave up. Recently we got a new person in the office who wanted to use it so I said more power to you. She showed me how to get it going and with tips from my sister who used to work at a specialty coffee place, I feel professional. I make a fantastic carmel macchiatta every morning. I reckon there may be a worn washer or something because I have to steam milk while the espresso is running (not what it’s supposed to do) but I found a fantastic rhythm and now I get very hot milk with an brilliant thick foam. I keep my $4 in my pocket.

Returned it after five days
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
We’ve previously used Krups and Capresso espresso makers that are similarly priced to this one, but this is the worst of the lot.
If we fill up the reservoir with water, it starts draining from every orifice until it is an inch or two below the rim. We checked the instructions, but could find no indication that it was supposed to be doing this.
When we added the amount of water the instructions indicated, it only made about half the amount of espresso it should have, and if we added some extra water, it sometimes overflowed the carafe. We were completely frustrated with the inconsistency of the unit.
The only thing positive thing I can say is that the reservoir cap is very sturdy.
We have returned it and will go back to Capresso. That one never drained water or overflowed the carafe.

Espresso Maker

This product was re-furbished and came in a bit dirty. It’s simple to use and makes espresso quick but the steam wand is terrible. It does not make the milk hot and does not let out enough steam.

I bought the machine mainly for cappuccino. But the pressure of steam is really pathetic and it goes away after 5-10 seconds. There was no seperate system for steam. I had to return it.

Not what I expected
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This is a nice looking Espresso Maker. The problem I found with it is the steamer is made of a flimsy plastic and I thought it was going to break every time I used it. It is not in the right place on the machine to be able to steam a cup of milk. I would not buy this machine again.

My First Espresso Machine
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is my first experience with an Espresso machine but this small gadget has been well worth the modest price I spent for it. Critics are right that the frothing arm is a small small…but investing in a small 20 oz. stainless steel frothing pitcher seems to do the trick. Add a stainless steel coffee tamper, some Espresso and Cappuccino cups and you are in business. I have impressed even some of my “coffee snob friends”. I’d recommend this unit especially to novices like me…then you can choose if you really need a $1,000+ machine. For now I’m just tickled with my $44.95 DeLonghi unit.

Save yourself the distress and don’t buy this product!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I have been buying this machine for years. I say “buying” because the milk frother has a lifespan of anywhere between 30 and 90 days, which, if you like drinking cappuccino, makes some limitations. Nothing I’ve done to carefully maintain and care for this machine seems to make any difference. Why do I keep buying it? Because it’s the only model I can find that allows enough clearance under the spout to insert a giant cappuccino mug (enabling me to make just one large cup, which I then split with my partner). The most recent time the frother died, I took the distress to try to make excellent on the product’s warranty with DeLonghi. It was SO not worth it! Although the product was just 60 days ancient and still under warranty, it was a huge hassle–two months of phone calls, letters, etc.–until I finally received my replacement. That was about a month ago, and the frother on this new machine just quit this morning. Save your money and invest in a quality product. (I’m so sorry I didn’t). The EC5 is a piece of junk!
