Nice looking, but not HOT
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I bought this coffee maker from Sears only hours ago, and rushed home to experience fresh, piping hot java.
Before throwing out my ancient Mr. Coffee, I chose to race the two for speed of brewing and temperature. The Cuisinart brewed 10 “cups” of coffee in 7 minutes and 28 seconds, at 168 degrees F (in the pot). My ancient Mr. Coffee, which is 3 years ancient, brewed 10 “cups” of coffee in just over 13 minutes, at 166 degrees F.
After letting both sit for 20 minutes- the Cuisinart was still holding at around 165 degrees (which is pretty excellent considering that there is no warmer plate- just the insulated carafe), while Mr. Coffee had dropped to 160F.
In all, the Cuisinart looks nice, and I like that it will use less electricity due to not needing a warmer plate. But, I drink my coffee with cream, and I want HOT coffee- so I need a pot that will place coffee in the pot at a hotter temp. I was disappointed that the Cuisinart didn’t brew coffee much hotter than my ancient Mr. Coffee.
Also, the controls are hard to use and see. The LCD show is not backlit, and the control know is hard to turn. I would certainly NOT recommend this coffee maker for folks with vision or dexterity issues.
To sum, the Cuisinart is nice looking, but not HOT. I’m going to return it and keep looking.
Coffee tastes fantastic, but … hot enough?
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I know I’m not the first to mention that the coffee might not stay as hot as promised, and that’s really my only complaint. The coffee tastes fabulous, and it brews about twice as quickly as my ancient coffee maker (DeLonghi). I thought quick brewing and fantastic coffee were mutually exclusive, but I’m glad to be incorrect. I just want it to be a small hotter. When I place it in my commuter mug and head to work, often the coffee is lukewarm by the time I get there. I guess I will have to buy a thermos.
Fantastic coffeemaker if you keep up w/ maintenance
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’ve used this coffeemaker daily for a small over a year with no complaints. Brews fantastic coffee and no problems with use until the last few weeks.
+ Simple to use
+ Well built – parts fit together easily
+ fantastic coffee
+ thermal carafe keeps coffee warm w/o cooking it
- thermal lid means a slow pour.
- awkward to fill coffee reservoir
- thermal carafe lid prone to clogging over time…if you don’t maintain it, you’ll have coffee all over the counter.
After about a year of use, the thermal carafe lid had become clogged enough with coffee sludge (fine grounds/oil) and hard water deposits to slow the flow/stop the flow through the lid. I woke up one morning to coffee everywhere. Took me a while to figure out what was happening. Here’s my fix:
I soaked the lid in a bowl of 2 cups hot soapy water + 2/3 cup white vinegar for a few hours, agitating the lid in the mixture every 1/2 hour or so.
Then, I rinsed the lid and packed baking soda in every opening and dropped it back into the mixture – hoping the fizzing action of the baking soda+vinegar would help loosen any remaining sludge.
I rinsed it again, and whacked it against the side of the sink for a final effort to loosen sludge. Repeated the baking soda + rinse + whacking a couple of times. No more problems.
In the future, I plot to do the soak at every Cleaning cycle/every couple of months.
Or, if you don’t want to deal with it, replacement thermal carafe lids are available for ~$6 + shipping.
heaven in a carafe

Cuisinart DCC-1150WH 10-Cup Programmable Thermal Coffeemaker, White
I have always bought Cuisinart coffeemakers, so when it was time to replace my Cuisinart 12-cup programmable coffeemaker I chose to try the Thermal. What a mistake!!! Your first cup of coffee is hot with a small work.
Here are the steps I went through for that first cups of hot coffee:
– Run hot water in the carafe to warm it up.
– Use a separate pitcher to place water in the coffeemaker because you could not empty all the water from the carafe.
– Warm up my coffee cup while the coffee is brewing.
Even with this process I would only get one HOT cup of coffee; all other cups had to be microwaved.
I returned the Thermal and bought another Cuisinart 12-cup programmable coffeemaker for which I am very pleased with.
Pretty but luke-warm coffee sucks
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Pros: Looks really pretty in the kitchen. Simple to set-up and program.
Cons: Brews luke-warm coffee. My first cup is cold by the time I end. I often have to microwave first and subsequent cups. Hard to pour out last cup. Multiple attempt to contact customer support have failed.
Probably back to Mr. Coffee for the future.
Over a year and still a fantastic coffee maker
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this coffee maker over a year ago and I still really like it to this day. It’s simple to fill, with a clear indicator on the side so you can watch the water level go up as you fill it. It’s simple to clean (I have the black one). I like the grooves on the top of the reservoir cover because I use a bamboo chopstick to stir my coffee, and it doesn’t roll off the top of the coffee maker. The coffee maker is honestly tall. It will fit on the counter under cabinets with room to spare, but I have to slide it out to fill the reservoir. Also, there is a steam vent on the top of the coffee maker above the reservoir. I really don’t know if it would hurt anything, but because of the location of the vent, I do not run the coffee maker when it is positioned under a cabinet.
The carafe is standard shape and size on the outside, though it is 10-cup, rather than 12, because of the dual-walled thermal construction. The lid on the carafe is designed so that it makes a vacuum seal. It takes a small strength to get it off, but is not hard (I am not all that strong). The vacuum seal that (theoretically) keeps the coffee fresher also makes it pour more slowly. This may frustrate some people, but if you’re in a huge rush, you can just take off the lid. The spout on the carafe has *never* dripped, in over a year of use, whether I pour with the lid on or off. The carafe keeps the coffee hot for quite some time (hours).
Programming is simple (I personally found it intuitive). The buttons are clearly marked, though the marks are small – some people may need reading glasses to read them. I’ve read that with some coffee makers, the bump on the top of the carafe doesn’t line up correctly with the drip outlet from the filter basket. I’ve never had that problem with this coffee maker; it’s simple to tell if the carafe is seated properly because there is a rim where the carafe rests, similar to the heating plate of coffee makers that have a glass carafe.
Finally, people with experience with coffee makers already know this, but “10 cups” is a joke. In the coffee maker world, “cup” usually means either 8 oz or even 5 oz. This coffee maker makes about four “American cups” (mugs) of coffee.
FANTASTIC coffee!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This coffee maker brews tasty coffee, without fail.
The machine is not perfect, but the resulting drink is, so I had to give it 5 stars since that is why we make the beverage, right?
Other reviewers have covered the minor inconveniences of it being hard to fill, the hard-to-see water reservoir window, the slow-pouring carafe and the loud “Ready” beeping.
After just a couple weeks of use, being hard to fill is probably my number one complaint. I use a small funnel. Problem solved.
Since the fill opening is on the top right rear of the machine I pour with my right hand. It would be preferable if the view window was on the LEFT side of the machine. But it isn’t. Waaaah.
Right, the carafe does pour slowly and to get the “last drop” I find it simplest to just remove the lid, but the carafe keeps the coffee warm and fresh-tasting for hours.
To me, the alert beeps are not loud or annoying. This thing brews so quietly, you wouldn’t know when it was finished otherwise.
I bought a white machine and I find if I rinse & dry the carafe lid and handle afterward and wipe the underside of the brew lid after it cools, things stay white.
You will not be dissatisfied if you buy this coffee maker.
Cuisinart DCC-1150 Coffeemaker
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This large coffeemaker is very attractive and has many excellent features including thermal caraf, programible timer, and even water dispersement when brewing. There are two poor features but, the coffee is not quite hot enough when brewed [this problem is exacerbated as time goes by] and it’s hard to read the water level when filling. My wife doesn’t like her coffee really hot so it’s okay for her so this issue is personal preference.
Not too hot
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
We bought this coffee make mistakenely thinking the Cusinart name would equate with quality. This machine does not produce hot coffee. Tastes excellent but not hot. We are going to save the carafe for hot coffee from our recently bought Mr Coffee machine. I would not buy another Cusinart coffee machine.
does not keep coffee hot at all!!!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I previously owned a cuisinart 14 cup machine….loved the way it made the coffee taste (perhaps the gold filter?); went to replace that machine after 1 1/2 years …..So, because I always wanted a thermal coffee pot, I bought this machine. Brewed my first pot a couple of days before Christmas and was sooooo disappointed that it did not keep my coffee hot at all….this machine brews coffee that is just warm or barely hot. Therefore, after the coffee is brewed, I have to place each cup in the microwave to get it hot enough to drink. This is a drag when you have a party or dinner and are serving coffee to a group of people!!! Also, the taste of the coffee is not as excellent as my previously owned cuisinart (???)….don’t know that one at all. Finally, you really cannot use the carafe to fill the water reservoir with water…..because it is impossible to get all the water out of the carafe. In addition, the pour spout drains so slowly ….it takes a lot of patience just to fill the reservoir and also to pour a cup of coffee. All of which I would not mind IF the Carafe kept the coffee hot at all. I guesss Cuisinart has really gone down hill!!! I am going to try another brand…..returning this one!! Terrible coffee maker…you will be disappointed!!! Really trying to warn other customers not to waste your money or time.
Fantastic daily-use coffee maker
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Fantastic coffee maker. Only complaint is with the carafe that requires an extreme pouring angle for the last 1.5 cups of water. This isn’t a problem with the tall themo carafes, as they can have a more gradual inside angle for simpler pouring. But, I do like this unit better than our previous coffee maker (DeLongi Twenty-Four Seven).

This is a fantastic coffee pot. I bought to replace a previoius Cuisinart, everything I wanted.
DCC 1150WH 10
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We bought this product to replace our ancient coffee pot (Cuisinart). We just like it. It keeps the coffee hot for a very very long time, no need for another container, to keep nice and hot. It does pour slow, but I told my wife the smaller the openning without having to unscrew something would stick or hard to undo, is worth the slow pour. She was thing that maybe should have brought one that had the build in coffee grinder. We have a separate coffee grinder and we do control how fine ground we want our coffee beans.
Cusinart Thermal Caraffe

This is a fantastic coffee maker. The coffee stays hot but doesn’t sit on a burner to ruin it.
Coffee Pot
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Simple to use. Keeps coffee hot. Pours without spilling. Coffee tastes excellent. Lid of pot a small hard to turn. Best coffeemaker I have had.
There are better coffee makers out there
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This coffeepot is a functional disaster. First, the design makes it impossible to pour the water into it without spilling, then the water never gets fully hot enough to make decent coffee, and the carafe does not keep the coffee hot for very long. I miss our reliable krups.
Died after one use.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I received this unit promptly from Amazon and immediately filled it with cold water and a paper filter to clean it as per the directions. The unit worked properly for that one cycle. When I emptied the carafe and attempted to refill the water resevoir, the coffemaker died – no clock, no power, nothing.
I contacted Amazon and arranged for a return and replacement which they sent with 2 day air (very nice). The new unit arrived and, so far (fingers crossed), it is working properly.
Two items that I do not like. One, as others have noted, filling the resevoir is hard with a small opening and an inconvenient placement. Second, I can’t know why the pad upon which the thermal carafe sits gets hot and heats the underside of the stainless steel carafe during the brewing cycle. The reason one buys a thermal carafe unit is so there is no need for hot plate warming. I can only assume that Cuisinart cut corners and used the same electronics of the unit with the Glass carafe for this coffee maker. One more thing to go incorrect on a product that has already demonstrated its poor reliability and quality control to me.
Awesome Coffee Maker
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am a fanatic about my coffee being hot and this is absolutely the hottest coffee I have ever gotten from a coffee maker. I add milk so the hotter it starts off the better it is for me. The thermal pot keeps the temperature consistant without the need for the warming plate.
I did find that it is best to warm up the carafe first especially if you keep your house cool at night. I use the leftover hot water from my last cup of tea at night. By putting it in the coffee carafe and leaving it overnight (I was a small amazed that this worked) the inside of the carafe was still warm in the morning. Just remember to dump it out in the morning.
I have read most of the other reviews and agree that the markings are a small hard to see…..just need to place on my glasses. I have a large measuring cup with a spout that works very well for putting the water in and it is not any harder to fill than my last Mr. Coffee.
I highly reccommend this Cuisinart. Brews quick…looks excellent…best of all piping hot coffee first cup to last!
Expensive junk
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
After having the coffee marker for a small while, the mechanism for controlling the no drip feature when the carafe was out of the coffee maker would malfunction causing coffee to leak all over my kitchen even when the carafe was inside the coffee machine. A large mess in your kitchen is not the best way to start your day!
Best coffee maker I have ever owned

I like this coffee make so much simply heat the stainless steel with hot water and coffee will still be hot the next morning coffee taste better then it ever has before also I wanted this coffee maker for months amazon had the best price of anyone thanks so much
Piping warm coffee
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I’ve had the same experience that many others have had with the coffee coming out not as hot as I’d like. It’s OK for my first cup but if I place it in my travel mug for my morning commute, it’s pretty much ambient temperature by the time I get to work. My wife and son take their coffee with milk and they have to microwave the coffee before adding milk so it’s hot enough. Tonight my wife called Cuisinart customer service, and the rep she spoke with said that they used to provide a glass-lined, Thermos-like thermal carafe with this coffeemaker. That carafe kept the coffee hot. The current carafe isn’t lined, so doesn’t keep the coffee as hot as long. If I can find a properly insulated carafe I reckon this would be a excellent coffeemaker; as it is it is really annoying.
Like it!

I am a stay at home mom to 3 kids under 6. I drink coffee all morning long, which is why this coffee maker is perfect for me! It is simple to use, and the thermal carafe keeps my coffee warm for hours with out me having to use the microwave!
The only downside for me was the fact that it I cannot use the carafe to fill the water reservoir. Other than that minor con, I would recommend this coffee maker to anyone!
Really nice especially for the cost
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have been looking forever for a 10 cup coffee maker with a thermal carafe. The only thing terrible thing I have to say about this coffee maker is that it doesn’t come with a removable resevoir. Other than that is makes execellent coffee. I really delight in the gold filter that is included with the product.
Pleased so far
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this coffee maker in October (about a month ago) and so far I am pleased with it. I usually stay away from drip makers because the coffe does not get hot enough. This one but makes excellent hot and strong coffee (for my taste). It pours very slowly…but I don’t find that a problem. Very simple to clean, and simple to prepare the coffee. I have used Farberware in the past…but have had to replace it 3 three times in five to six years. I am hoping to trust Cuisinart to hold up better…in fact my sister has the brew station for 2 years now and it’s doing fantastic, so I’m hoping for the same results with this. Very pleased.
Is the coffee worth the annoyance?
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I spent a lot of time researching which coffee maker to buy, and at first loved this one. Like the thought of a Carafe rather than a burner to keep my coffee hot and that it has a white option to match my kitchen. Also like the 1-4 cup option which does help it turn out hotter. But, it’s been about a year since I bought it, using it several times a week, and it drives me crazy.
Coffee tastes pretty excellent, but I eventually bought paper filters since the permanent one wasn’t worth the distress to get clean. (Not a huge problem, just thought you might want to know.) For more than 4 cups, it’s hot enough, but not quite as hot as I’d prefer since I use half and half. There is a lot of condensation after you brew your coffee, so I feel I have to leave the top of the machine open all day for it to dry out enough — and there is no partial open option as on my previous Cuisinart Filter Brew. (Which, btw, I only stopped using because it was the incorrect color for my kitchen.) And, my largest complaint, is that the top of the carafe is very poorly designed. The coffee pours out in a trickle, even with the top all the way on as instructed. Whenever I have guests, they reckon the coffee is gone, but, really, there is plenty …. it just doesn’t pour well. Also, for that reason, I never use the carafe to pour the water in before brewing… Takes too long, so I use a measuring cup for a larger batch or my travel mug when that’s all I want.
Consumer Reports just came out with new Coffeemaker Ratings, and I am keenly researching those to pick out a new coffee maker to buy. Number one on their list is Cuisinart Brew Central DCC-1200, but it doesn’t have a thermal carafe. The only other Cuisinart listed was rated #12 out of 36, and does have a thermal carafe, but it is more expensive and has THE LOWEST test results on “Carafe handling”! Guess I’m ready to try a new brand. )-:
Fantastic coffe is a must for me!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I like my coffee first thing in the morning. I want it waiting for me, no matter when I roll out of bed. This is a replacement for another Cuisinart coffee maker I had, which I was pleased with. After a few years they seem to fail, but I have always found that I have gotten my money’s worth. I choose this model because the controls are above the carafe. I have had a few spill overs, and wondered if the moisture caused the failure of my other coffeemaker. The coffee is brewed consistently well, and kept warm in the carafe. I would buy this product again.
cuisinart coffee machine
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have had this machine about a month now and am very pleased with it. The stainless thermal pot keeps the coffee pretty hot for about 2 hours. Freshly brewed coffee will burn your mouth if not careful. My husband gets up an goes hunting at 5:00am and when I get up at 7:00 the coffee is still hot. Fantastic price and excellent value.
Customer Dis-service
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Two Cuisinart coffee makers this year… one a gift, one bought, both broke and I’ve been waiting for replacement for 2 months. Customer service is rude and a joke. They say that they can’t tell when product will ship so they are either liars or they set up the system to keep you hanging. Not only would I not buy this one, but Cuisinart should be avoided.
Nearly the Best Coffee Maker on Market
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Like many other reviewers, I too have had a problem with my coffee maker brewing coffee at a lukewarm temperature. Not sure how this is happening since a boiling temperature drives the water up into the hose and out the shower head. I suspect those who have not had a problem with lukewarm coffee probably drink their coffee black, or with a splash of cream. I, on the other hand use more milk than most, so I require a hot cup of coffee to start with. So after re-reading reviews on this coffee maker and reviewing what is available on the market, I chose to keep this device and see if I could come up with a way to make my coffee hot.
The first most obvious thing that I chose NOT to do was to use my filtered refrigerator water. Placing the extra demand on the coffeemaker to heat cold water could not be an option for obvious reasons. The second thing I determined I would try was selecting the “1 – 4″ cup button to see if this made a difference. I noticed another reviewer felt it did. I’m not sure it made any difference at all. But, after some careful consideration on what could be causing this problem, I tried something else, which seemed to make all the difference in the world. I figured the water was not staying in the heating chamber long enough before it got sucked up into the hose (again, not sure why), so I chose to manipulate the on/off button to force the water to heat longer. So I would go through the normal brewing process, then just when the coffee started to spray out of the shower head, I would stop it, then let it sit for a few seconds, then turn it back on allowing it to heat a small more. Then when it started to spray again, I would turn it off. Repeat 3 – 5 times, pausing several seconds in between restarting. By doing this, I figured the water had more time to get heated by the coils. This seemed to do the trick and keep in mind, I have been using cold refrigerator watering my brewing process.
The obvious problem with this method is that it required me to be near the coffeemaker and pay attention to it’s cycle to be sure I stopped it just in time. It is a lot of manipulation, but I now really delight in a hot and flavorful cup of coffee with milk – and it seems to stay hot for several hours in the carafe. Since I only brew at home on the weekends, it is a doable option for me since I feel it is overall a quality product that brews one tasty pot of coffee.
If water is not heated adequately before showering over the coffee grounds, it will not pull out the full potential flavor from the coffee beans. This is vital to know in case you are spending huge bucks on expensive coffee, like me. I can’t help but reckon that since so many folks are having this same problem, that there is a coil issue with this coffee maker. Just know, it does have the potential to heat up adequately with a small manipulation.
