    Nice replacement!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
After 7 years, I broke the carafe for my Braun coffee maker and the replacement was about $20, so for $15 more I chose to get the Black & Decker DCM2500B instead. A basic coffeemaker is all we needed, and this one works just fine for us. The best thing about this coffeemaker is the carafe because it does not drip/leak when you pour the coffee (which was my largest complaint with the ancient Braun). The worst thing about it for me is the large “lid” on the top of the machine. I have to pull it nearly completely out from under the cabinet in order to open the lid and pour in the water. (But, I already expected that because of another review I read before buying.) I also don’t care for the bright red clock; I’d prefer blue/green or one that doesn’t light up at all. These small complaints are not a huge deal to me though. Overall I really like this coffeemaker! :)

    Very excellent, with one caveat

I got this coffeemaker at Walgreen’s for $20. I like everything about it except the location of the controls. One time I didn’t seat the coffee pot properly, and coffee leaked all over, which fried the controls at the base of the unit. My fault I know, but I wish they would place the controls on the side or better yet up top. The unit still brews, but the clock and timer are toast.

    Fantastic coffee maker.
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The B&D DCM2500B SmartBrew Coffeemaker makes a fantastic cup of coffee. Clean, crisp and quick. It’s simple to load up the ground coffee and water. I really like that it shuts off in 2 hours… Putting the carafe under the drip takes a couple of tries but, once you get used to the tight fit under the basket, it’s simple enough to place the carafe back. The only downside is that the access to the basket and water tank is an all-in-one lid… You have to pull it out from under the cabinet to place ground coffee and water in. All in all, a fantastic coffeemaker for the price.

    Leaks all over the counter
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I got two of these coffee makers. I bought one at Target and had to return it two weeks later as water leaked out of the reservoir on the counter. I just got another one as a Christmas gift and deja vu! Water leaking out all over the counter.

Other issues. This is a very basic coffee maker and it’s extremely flimsy and generally overall just very cheap looking and non-durable.

The no-spill carafe, simple-to-fill tank, programmable feature and excellent-tasting brew all make this a fantastic coffeemaker.

Leaked voluminously on the first try
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I’ll never know if this was a excellent coffee maker or not. When I did the cleaning/test pot after bringing it home, it leaked everywhere. Twice. Not much water made it into the carafe. I didn’t see any cracks, I don’t know why it leaked…but I got my money back instead of exchanging it for a non-leaking model.

    Fantastic bargain!

You can’t go incorrect with this coffee maker for the price. 12 cups with pause feature for that first cup while it’s still brewing. Also has timer that can be set. I have hard water so I’ve gone through a lot of coffee makers over the years, this is the second time I’ve bought this exact model. The carafe pours well too. Some of the others drip down the sides and make a mess on the counter. I will buy it again and would recommend to my family and friends.

Super Coffee pot for the money!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars

I like this pot. I’ve owned it for a few months and couldn’t be more pleased. It makes a fantastic cup of coffee. 1 scoop for every 2 cups of water, this is the normal amount in most machines. It brews quick and hot. For 29.99 you can’t go incorrect. And yes finally a pot the doesn’t make a mess when you pour a cup, NO DRIPS!

The Black & Decker DCM2500B SmartBrew Coffeemaker is fantastic. We can make the amount of cups we need and it brews quick. We like the time set, and the auto shut off. It was a fantastic buy. Tks.

    Finally a dripless carafe!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The B&D Smartbrew coffee maker has proven to be a reliable standard fare drip coffee maker with timer. It makes a excellent pot of coffee consistently and easily for a fantastic price – and that comes from a daily coffee drinker. It also looks fine in a kitchen with stainless+black appliances although it has no stainless end on it – just black.

The REALLY FANTASTIC THING about this coffee maker is that I no longer dribble coffee all over my countertop trying to pour a cup, or water all over the place trying to fill the maker. Hats off to the engineers at B&D for solving a problem that has plagued drip coffee makers since the beginning! Very pleased with this buy!

    A Fantastic Pour
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a fine coffeemaker. I’m not a particularly “gourmet” coffee drinker. Over the years, my main complaint with many brewers, even expensive ones, is that when pouring the coffee, there always is a spillage that doesn’t make it into the cup. It runs down the carafe, spilling onto the counter. This problem has been solved by the flat shape of the pouring area. Not a drop goes astray. The Black and Decker folks have designed the carafe to perfection!! And by the way….. the coffee is brilliant.

  12. Mandeep Zed Says:

    Waste of Money
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
After a mere 6 weeks of occasional use, the reservoir immediately leaks all the water when it is filled. The water somehow comes out the screw holes in the base of the machine. When it really did brew coffee, the temperature was, at the hottest, lukewarm. The coffee does get warm enough if you have the time to leave it on the warming plate for a while.

Returning it is just not worth it. Amazon’s return policy is confusing, and they will not give a full refund. The phone person said 15-20% restocking fee, but the return policy page says up to 50% of the item’s price. I’d have to pay shipping too. B&D will only replace the unit, after charging me for shipping. I could resell the replacement unit, but I wouldn’t wish for someone else to share my terrible experience with this product.

    Coffee…No Frills
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I like coffee and needed a dependable coffeemaker that’s simply going to drip brew a pot for me each morning. I wasn’t looking for something incredibly complex, just a solid run-of-the-mill coffeemaker that wouldn’t cost me an arm and a leg. So far, this B&D coffeemaker has been fantastic, exactly what we were looking for.

It’s nothing fancy, but the coffee’s excellent, the carafe pours well, and we haven’t had any issues after brewing numerous pots. If you want more than “basic” you’ll probably be disappointed, but if not, this coffeemaker is a fantastic option.

  14. College Student Says:

    Excellent but not hot
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This product is just the right size for my space, especially since its capacity is on the larger side. It looks fine except the small digital clock on the base. I wish the numbers weren’t red. It gives it a dated look, but I am sure I will get over that. The main problem that I have with the machine is that immediately after brewing, the coffee is not hot enough. I have to leave the coffee sitting in the pot so that the base can warm it or pour and place it in the microwave for a few seconds. If you like a real hot cup of coffee you might want to make the judgement call about whether you can wait a small while or place extra effort into making it happen before purchasing this product.

  15. Miles Siegel Says:

    Uses 50% more coffee
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
After using the product for 2 months my conclusion is that is a well made product: – carafe does not drip, basket is simple to use and clean, electronic controls are simple and reliable, and the coffee stays hot BUT, to get a decent cup of coffee you need to use 50% more coffee than any of the machines with the melita design for the basket e.g Krupp or Braun. This means this coffee maker is very expensive in the long run. For nearly the same money you can do better. Overall I would look elsewhere.

Really wanted to like this, but………

I bought this item in April 2008 and since then I’ve had two problems. First, the pot leaked. (So much for all the no-leak pot reviews!) I called and they sent me a new one; much better. Then today (admittedly, a year and a half later with once-a-day use), it just quit brewing. Again I called and they are honoring the two-year warranty as stated on their website–I just have to send it back and pay shipping to get a new one, but it’s still better than paying full price. Customer service was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, I reckon I got a lemon! Other than that, I like it, so I’m still giving it 3 stars.

    Brilliant Coffeemaker
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
After years of putting up with poorly-designed, poorly-built coffeemakers, it is a joy to finally own one that is so excellent. I bought it after seeing the reviews here & at Consumer Reports and noting that the price is about as reasonable as you can get. It makes fantastic coffee. Uses standard filters. Doesn’t drip. Brews the coffee quickly. Stays on for 2 hours. Has an simple-to-see clock. The scheduler works as it should. Cleanup is simple. There are few moving/replaceable parts, so the chances of failure are quite low. I am SO pleased I found this machine and can highly recommend it.

The Black & Decker DCM2500B SmartBrew Coffeemaker wasn’t very smart! In fact, one of the two we bought wouldn’t work at all! (Internal water hose wasn’t connected, I reckon!) We bought TWO very similar B&D coffeemakers at our local Target for less than half of the price of these! Buyer beware! Cjheck “local” prices first.

    Couldn’t question for much more
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
When shopping around for a coffee maker, I was looking for several selling points and found them all in this unit.

    Pros:

    1. No drip pouring. Seriously, no drips!

    2. Programmable timer. Make up a filter with grounds in it the night before, set it for 7 hours and presto, when I walk into the kitchen out of the shower there’s a fresh hot pot of coffee.

    3. Automatic shut-off. This is a huge one for me, it saves energy and lessens the chance your house will burn down if you forget to turn the hot plate off. It turns off after 2 hours.

I took it out of the box, ran water through it twice and then made my first pot. Water to coffee ratio was just fine. No leakage around the filter or spill-over. Caraffe is sturdy.

    Cons:

None to speak of right now. Been using this for about one month and can’t find a fault with it. If I come across one I’ll edit my review.

The Reason It’s a Customer Favorite
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’m so glad I found the customer reviews on this item! The best coffee maker I’ve owned! The carafe is sturdy and holds up to multiple dishwasher washings in a week. All the components fit into the station securely and I’ve not had a spillover problem as I have with other models. The coffee it brews is just brilliant and I didn’t even need to look at the manual as to how to program or use any of the functions. A real user friendly small gem and very reasonably priced. I bought mine in black and it still looks pristine. Highly reccommend!

    Warning: Buy Another Coffee Maker!
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I am never one to complain about a product but this coffee maker was so terrible that I felt compelled to write a review. I really reviewed many of the reviews on this product on Amazon prior to purchasing this coffee maker approximately 2-3 months ago. I thought I had hit the gold mine – a high quality coffee maker at a low price. Many of the problems that I read on the reviews were the following:

    1. Coffee does not taste very excellent

    2. If you do not have the carafe placed perfectly under the filter mechanism during the brew process, your kitchen counter will be suddenly filled with water and coffee grounds

    3. The coffee is not very hot and often requires nuking in the microwave

Well, I highly recommend that you heed the warnings. I did not and paid for it. On three occasions, water/coffee grounds from the coffee pot overflowed all over the place. There apparently is no safety mechanism that prevents this from happening so special attention must be given when brewing coffee using this pot. If the carafe is misplaced, even a few millimeters, it will overflow. I also often found myself having to nuke the coffee to warm it up, this only minutes after the completion of the brew process. Finally, the coffee really did not taste very excellent. The coffee was consistently weak or watered down. I did not realize how terrible the coffee was until I went out and bought a new Cuisinart 12 Cup Coffee Maker yesterday.

It should be noted that I had to go out and buy a new coffeemaker because the electronics associated with this coffeemaker died following the last overfill. We all know that these electronic compartments are not waterproof so when it overfilled, the water entered and ruined the mechanism by which the coffee brewer is controlled. I even let it sit out for a couple of days hoping that it would dry out with no success.

To avoid being considered biased against this coffee maker, it does have some redeemable qualities. First, the carafe is fantastic, probably the best I have ever seen. Also, the controls are laid out nicely and programming the time, brewing the coffee, etc. was extremely simple. Lastly, the overall look of the coffee maker, plus the ability to see the amount of water in the reservoir, was very well designed. Unfortunately, that is where the positive components of the coffee maker end.

I am a coffee connoisseur and have had cups of coffee all around the world. I like the Cuban coffee produced and sold in Tampa, as well as a number of brands sold by Starbucks. For this reason, it could be said that I like my coffee stronger than some (keep this in mind as it might bias my perception of the coffee brewed by this coffeemaker). Despite this, a excellent coffee maker should not spill all over the place and the coffee should be hot, especially following the brewing process. I encourage anyone who likes drinking coffee to spend the extra $20-30 for a Cuisinart or other state-of-the-art coffee maker. You will save yourself a fantastic deal of frustration and will not have to look over your shoulder each time you brew coffee to see if water and coffee grounds are flowing all over your kitchen counter and floor.

You Can’t Go Incorrect With This Best Buy Brewer!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
If you, like me, tend to agonize over buys like this because you’re just not sure you’re making the right choice, do yourself a favor, save yourself some time (and angst), and just BUY THIS COFFEEMAKER! Devote your research energies to another project, because you won’t find a better value. This smart-looking Black & Decker does exactly what it promises. It has all the features you need and none you don’t. I particularly like the fact that, unlike much more expensive brewers I’ve owned, it truly is “dripless” — if you want/need that first cup before the brewing process is completely finished, just grab the carafe and pour with confidence, imbued with the knowledge that not a single drop of java will wind up anywhere but in your cup. Yes, we can land a man on the moon AND develop a cheap yet impressively competent coffeemaker!

Why are you still reading? You know all you need to know. Buy it! You’ll thank me. Really, you will. :-)

    B&D Junk
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
All the B&D coffee makers are junk – at least all I’ve used or heard about. The one I have stops intermittently during the brew cycle, the rim on the hot plate cracked after just 1 month, you have to use more coffee than with other coffee makers and it takes about 12 minutes to make 6 cups of coffee.

This is the second one of these coffeemakers that I have owned and used. I like the no-drip spout and the unit’s overall performance. The only glitch was that the plastic clips that secure the lid to the pot were broken upon arrival, but it is still functional in this condition. I will buy another one of this exact model in the future if one is still available.

    Lasted One Year
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I chose this model because it was Consumer Reports most highly rated drip coffeemaker. Immediately the hinge on the lid broke, so you have to hold it with your thumb whenever you pour coffee. Hard water has caused a problem with our coffeemachines in the past, so I have been scrupulous about giving it a vinegar rinse every 6 weeks and using filtered water… to no avail. The machine just stopped percolating today, One year and 2 months after buy. I called B&D as there were no “troubleshooting tips” in the accompanying pamphlet, but they just said, “Hmmm, don’t know. Guess you’ll just have to buy another.” Not another Black & Decker thank you very much.
