I had excellent results with my coffee maker. Made a decent cup of coffee quickly and was simple to clean and use. After about a months use making 1 or 2 cups a day it died. Coffee maker employs two thermal fuses in the heating element circuitry, mounted on the heating tube to prevent overheating and a possible fire hazard. I have read other reviews where the coffee maker turns on by itself, which would be a real problem if there was no water in the coffee maker and no fuse to limit the temperature, I suspect this is what happened to mine and caused the thermal fuse to blow. I disassembled mine out of curiosity and the fuse was indeed blown. Now I know why the tell you to unplug the unit when it’s not in use. Judge for yourself, if you unplug it when it’s not in use it would probably last a while. It IS very inexpensive.

    Quite the bargain!

I was looking for something less pricey than the well loved one-cup makers now selling. This one does not disappoint. It’s quick, just the right size, and the thermal cup keeps the coffee warm for quite awhile. Nice to be able to use your own coffee, too. I do suggest getting paper filters, though, because the permanent filter’s size and shape make it a small tough to get completely clean. You really can’t go incorrect with this one. Once you have a fresh cup of coffee every morning, you’ll never go back to full pots sitting on a burner!

    B&D DCM18S coffee maker

I like the personal coffe maker because of being quick and you can make just one cup at a time. The things i have found is that when you use fine ground coffee like Duncan Donut coffee, some of the grounds get into the cup. I found that if you use regular grind coffee like Folgers Classic, that does not happen. After washing in the dishwasher, the cup lid is loose and may come off. I reckon that maybe if you use #1 coffee filter, it may help keep the grounds out of the cup but they are impossible to fing where i live. According to the price of full size coffee makers, the DCM18S, is a small over priced.

    fantastic Christmas gift
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was searching for a surprize gift for my wife for Christmas (after 38 years, this can be hard)…I made a list of what she likes/does…coffee was near the top…although she has a large coffemaker, she usually only makes a cup or two on weekday mornings before she goes to work…I read a fantastic many reviews of this and other similar products (I always read the negative reviews first)…I advised my wife of the “problems” noted…she has not had any distress with this product, and she uses it 5 days a week…the large size of the cup is just the right amount to delight in before going to work…she also likes the paperless basket, as she grinds her own beans, and she has no distress with solids in her coffee…all in all, a product that does the job at a very reasonable price…she would recommend it to anyone….

    Brilliant One-Cup Solution

I really like this coffee maker for an simple one-cup of coffee, hot tea, or for any purpose needing hot water. I had noticed this being recommended by Consumer Reports in their coffee maker ratings and so I chose to go ahead and buy it. Target’s website claimed they have it, but when I went to their store, I couldn’t find this model anywhere. Amazon finished up being the best price for this product (when factoring in the free shipping). I regularly use this for coffee, hot tea, and when making anything that needs a cup of hot water like Jello, cup of noodles, Betty Crocker Bowl Appetit, etc. It produces the hot water nearly instantly from first turning it on.

Very convenient for making a single person mug of coffee. Can even wash everything in the dishwasher. But mine stopped heating after only 4 uses. Supposedly I can get it replaced, but the warranty people did not respond to email. Will have to do this over the .phone

    Like it so far
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve only had this about a week but I like it so far. It’s fantastic not to have to clean out a carafe every time I want a cup (or half-cup) of coffee. I usually only drink a cup a day at most, so this is perfect for me. I keep this in my room — when I wake up, i turn on the coffee maker, hit the snooze button on my alarm, and wake up to the smell of coffee 5 minutes later. It’s nice to drink my coffee before having to get out of bed.

I would have loved for this to have a timer on it, and would have gladly paid extra for it.

I have owned this coffee maker for over a year. I always use the reusable filter and the mug that came with it. I like my small coffeemaker. It makes wonderful coffee, and I have recently started making mocha which is yummy. I would certainly buy this coffeemaker again. It was such a excellent bargain.

    There’s a learning curve!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The first cup of coffee I brewed in this was DREADFUL – grounds splattered everywhere, sediment in the cup, weak coffee… dreadful. The tenth was pretty terrible, too. A few things I’ve figured out about making a excellent, strong cup of coffee in this machine:

    1) Ditch the reusable filter. You can either buy #1 cone filters from Melitta (available on Amazon) or pick up the next size up in basket style from the grocery. Those look way too huge, but the edges really fold to fit nicely into the Brew N’ Go. The #1 cones limit (but not terribly) the amount of grounds you can use.

    2) Grind your coffee as you would for a normal machine. This machine seems built to replicate the normal brewing process as much as possible, only in miniature. If you grind your beans too fine so that you can use fewer beans and avoid spill-overs, you’ll get a weak and over-extracted cup, just as you would in a normal machine. Using a paper filter will avoid spill-overs and allow you to grind the beans normally.

    3) Be generous with the grind. I like a strong cup, and about 3 level tablespoons gets one out of this machine.

    4) Fill the water reservoir at least to the line, maybe even a bit over, and use a tall cup to avoid splashes.

    5) Expect a 2-3 minute brew time. If you use paper filters, there should be few or no grounds splashed inside the machine, and limited dripping when the cup is done brewing.

Hope this helps someone out there skip those initial terrible cups!

I bought this for my brother who drinks coffee everyday. he’s always in a rush so this product is excellent because it makes just one coffee and no need for filters, even better right? INCORRECT. the coffee maker’s filtration decreases functionality after a while resulting in watered down taste. SKIP iT unless you want terrible coffee.

    Had mine for years

I don’t use the permanent filter that comes with it. I use small paper filters. It is simpler to just lift the paper filter, toss it in the trash, and rinse the removable plastic insert (and it eliminates some of the issues other reveiws talk about). I suspect that some of the overflow experiences are because the plastic insert is not lined up with the flow-through hole in the main unit. If you buy one and look at the unit you will see what I am referring to.

Anyway, I have throughly loved mine. I like a fresh cup of coffee and not something that has been sitting in the pot.

I also like my coffee in a ceramic cup, so I seldom use the mug that came with it.

Can’t beat the price. Other one cup makers can be muuuch more $.

I requested this coffeemaker for Christmas to replace my Mr Coffee single serve maker that had finally bit the dust due to plastic parts just breaking apart with the hot water. The best thing about this Black & Decker coffeemaker is that you don’t have to use pods and the filter keeps out all but the smallest grounds. The largest drawback is that you have to place water in it for every cup and you can’t use taller cups. I also have a minor issue with water leakage, but I keep a small cup handy to take the place of my cup of coffee and that pretty much takes care of that.

The bottom line is with this coffeemaker I can make a excellent strong cup of coffee and use much less coffee that I did with the multi-cup coffee maker.

I like this coffee maker, I drink alot of coffee and have always disliked the coffee that sits around all morning on the burner with the larger makers. This is perfect, make a fresh brewed cup every time. I’ve own it for years and have just order my second, both my sons questioned and got one for xmas they like it too. I’m hooked on this maker, I use a Box of Joe when I have alot of company. Please keep making it…

    Small workhorse coffeemaker
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this coffeemaker 2 years ago for my office, and it’s still going strong. It’s simple to use, simple to clean, and reliable. It makes coffee hot (unlike some that make it just warm), and has room enough in the basket to make it excellent and strong (I usually use 2.5T coffee per mug but could double that). I’m drinking a mug of fresh coffee from it right now. Even the mug is excellent, as I’ve had too many travel mugs that didn’t seal properly at the lid and would end up dribbling down my chin, but this one is nice and snug and stays place. No muss, no fuss.

The reasons I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 are that 1) if you fill the mug all the way to the top to fill the water basin, you will have spillage (leave about 1/2″ space from top and you’re fine), and 2) if your mug isn’t positioned properly, you may find yourself brewing onto your counter or desk as there’s no brew-pause or other switch to indicate to the coffeemaker that the mug isn’t positioned right.

The thought of a single cup maker, at an inexpensive price, was motivation for my young daughter to buy this as a Christmas gift. It worked for one cup of coffee on Christmas morning and would never turn on again. After an extensive wait period at the 800 number supplied for any type of warranty I learned that it would cost $7.50 check, cut the plug off, purcase a mailing package and mail it to the Ohio address at unknown cost for the certified mailing. They would mail anoter unit back. No refund for the return expenses and of course no guarantee the new one would last any longer than one use. Thus a replacement unit plus the original buy would be nearly a double cost and not worth the time. Purchasing one at a store could save the headaches if returning it to the store on another shopping trip.Black & Decker DCM18S Brew ‘n Go Personal Coffeemaker with Travel Mug

I’ve had this coffee maker for years and its my favorite.

I would’ve given 5 stars, but the ONLY thing I wish this had was a timer so that I could set it the night before and just grab and go the next morning.

Its so simple and simple to use and its fantastic that you dont have to worry about washing any coffee pots, just place your cup underneath and you’re excellent to go.

    Perfect for my college student
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this coffee maker for my college age daughter for x-mas. I haven’t given it to her yet, but I have tried it out a few times just to get the hang of it due to reviews about grounds spill-over, etc. If you place in the right amount of water and coffee it brews perfectly with no spill-over; but, it does take a full 5 minutes to end the last few drips/drops. If you wash the mug the first time you use it you get no rubbery taste. The coffee tastes as excellent as the much more expensive Keurig, you can place a tall cup underneath, and clean-up is a snap. This is perfect for those who don’t feel the need to spend money needlessly. I gave it four stars as I don’t know how long it will last, but if it lasts her for the next 2-3 years I will be pleased.

so far this product has been very excellent performance-wise, ease-of-use and cleaning. it took forever to arrive but it works like a charm. The travel mug is a excellent quality and the filter it comes with is simple to clean and I do not have any problems with coffee grounds overflowing. just place in two medium tablespoons of coffee and its fine.

I’ve owned several of these and have gifted many more over the past 10 years. I like the product. In fact, I have a cup brewing as I type this review. It’s fantastic for home, the office and road trips. I’m concerned that it’s being sold for over $60 here when I’ve never paid more than $20 for them in stores.

Second buy of this product. Perfect size for single coffee drinker, brew basket has self filter, brew temperature is just right. This coffeemaker travels well and brew time is very small. I bought a second one because the net lining in the brew basket was worn from repeated washing, it lasted about 2 years. Cup fits nicely into car cup holders but the design makes it a bit tippy. The seal at the top of the cup allows water to get between the metal and plastic, it does not leak but seal should be better.

Fantastic! and takes #2 paper filters also
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Just the right maker for my morning cup. Quick and simple.

I’m not a fan of the permanent filter for the coffee grounds, I find it messy to empty and not simple to clean.

Instead I prefer using a paper filter in the basket. Ordered some #1 filters with the maker, as mentioned in

other reviews, but they’re not the only ones that fit. I’m also pleased with using the commonly available #2 cone filters

in this maker. Just a fold along the edge, a fold along the bottom, and pop it in the basket. There’s 1/4 inch or so of

filter over the top that can be folded back or just left alone. It’s never flopped over to cause spillage or leaked grounds.

And it’s a snap to dump the used filter and grounds in the trash can with no mess.

My only wish is that the base were a small taller, to be used with a variety of travel mugs. My 22oz doesn’t quite fit.

Still, better than I had hoped. Get it!

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I like it. I am the only coffee drinker at home. iIt makes a very excellent cup of coffee. I had to experiment to get the right amount of grounds for the 10 oz cup. The non-use of paper filters is fantastic. Less mess since I always wash out the permanent filter. It takes up 1/4 the space of my 12 cup maker that I had been using. Would I buy it again, YES.

    Just what I wanted
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The Black & Decker Brew ‘n Go coffee maker is a very convenient and simple to use single cup coffee maker. It is adequate in construction, even though the plastic seems a small light. (I am reassured by the one year warranty on the box, although I haven’t yet read the small print.) I’m not sure the mug is truly stainless steel versus plastic with a simulated surface, since it feels light. The DCM 18 model with the black plastic mug, which is about $9 dollars cheaper might have been just as excellent, but a least this model is more attractive. The cup is comfortable to hold and seem to keep the coffee warm, although I usually place it on a desktop coffee warmer. One minor complaint: the coffee splashes up onto the “water spreader” from which the hot water dispenses onto the grounds-holding filter, necessitating carrying it to the sink to wash. A relatively simple process. This might be because I place more coffee grounds into the filter than most because I like it strong. All-in-all, it fits my purposes as a quick single-cup coffee maker. I couldn’t find another that was comparable for the price. My previous experiences with Black & Decker products have been excellent. I recommend it.

Fantastic and Affordable Product for Single cups
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this product because my sister had one and I was so impressed with being able to easily brew just one cup. It also will help with my electric bill since it cuts off as soon as the coffee is brewed. I don’t need the “keep warm” feature. Oh, yea…the coffee is fantastic!! The permanent filter was a disappointment since the finer particles were left at the bottom of my cup. I use the Melita cone #1 filter which eliminated that problem. But, if the filter or its holder are not placed just right, you can get coffee grounds in your cup, or the hot water misses the filter hole and may splash everywhere but in your cup. This was an simple fix. I just have to pay attention to what I am doing when preparing my cup of coffee. NOTE: I did have difficulty finding the #1 size filter. Most places were sold out. I went to Amazon and was able to buy a case of 12 boxes (40ea) for about 3 cents each filter. Even with shipping that was a cheaper price that at the grocery store. I have no doubt that I will use each and every one!! I also have peace of mind that I won’t run out anytime soon!!!
