Small, but excellent value
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The total volume is 16 ounces (two cups). This is okay. I don’t like drinking ancient over-warmed coffee, anyway.
The automatic shutoff doesn’t allow for over-warmed coffee or burned out elements. The stainless steel carafe means less glass carafe breakage and replacement hassle. I have had it for just a coupe weeks.
Even though the plastic lid over the pot seems a small fragile and a small complicated, the DCC “4″-Cup is a excellent value.
Cold, Spilled Coffee
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Cuisinart is smearing its excellent name with this one. As everyone else said already, this peice spills coffee all over, and then turns itself off. 30 minutes is basically 15 minutes of brewing, then 15 minutes of you drinking your first cup then coming back to a luke-warm second cup and spilling it all over again because even though you thought you have it figured out, it still spills. Junk. And the stainless steel
I’ve had it for 2 years now….
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this product for two years now and it still brews a fantastic cup off coffee. I agree with the other reviewers about the spillage. I finally just gave up and I use a plastic cup to fill the reservoir with water instead of the carafe. I use bottled water because our tap water makes the coffee taste yucky. When I pour my coffee, I pour it slowly and keep a paper towel handy. I am really looking to buy one for my office but I was surprised to see that the retail price is nearly double what I paid for mine! I will be shopping for a used one.
Excellent small basic coffee maker
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Usually smaller, basic products are made/designed more cheaply. That’s not the case here. This product has done just what I wanted it to, without the frills (do we really need a clock on everything?) or excess capacity of other coffee makers. I haven’t had the problem with spilling water/coffee that others have – perhaps Cuisinart redesigned the lid? I do wish that on/off switch was simpler to operate, but that’s my only criticism of this product.
Works perfectly!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Nice appearance, works honestly rapidly, and simple to clean up afterwords. I use both the gold filter and a paper filter — fantastic coffee.
Frustrated with each use, but still excellent coffee
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
The cons far outweigh the pros of this small machine.
Pros:
1. Excellent cup of coffee
Cons:
1. Hard to fill reservoir without spilling
2. Hard to fill cup with coffee without spilling (carafe lid leaks)
3. Hard to fill cup with coffee without burning hand with escaping steam from carafe.
4. If you lift the reservoir lid (which also holds the hot water dispenser) at the end of the cycle, water that had formed on the underside of the lid will spill back onto the boiling element and shoot steam and drops of boiling water on you hands and at your face. One learns the first time not to stand directly in front when attempting to lift lid
5. Power button cannot be turned-on with one hand
6. Carafe lid is sometimes hard to snap into place
I only keep it because it is small and I’m the only coffee drinker at home. Also, I am too bone idle to return it. Someday, whimsy will present a new machine to me.
Compact coffee…
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a perfect coffee maker if you have limited counter space and low cabinets. This is the only machine I have found to fit on our countertop without having to be went daily…you’ll like this compact.
Cuisinart has products that are funtional & affordable and withstand the test of time…delight in your Java!
I can live without the coffeemaker shutting off after 30 minutes

I can live without the coffeemaker shutting off after 30 minutes
I bought this 4-cup coffeemaker after I broke my second (spare) glass carafe of my 4-cup Mr. Coffee maker (got it as a gift over 14 years ago). It is incredible that the cost to replace that carafe is nearly the cost of a new coffeemaker! I won’t need to worry about cracking or breaking this stainless steel carafe.
One minor complaint I have with the carafe is that the plastic rim that makes up the pouring lip/lid holder/handle assembly prevents pouring every last drop of coffee. I also find it slightly annoying that Cuisinart found it necessary to turn off the heating plate after 30 minutes although I’m sure it is a safety feature with a carafe I cannot see through. I’ve never hurt a glass carafe from “boiling” it dry. I do not find the carafe lid annoyingly hard to remove or place in position. This lid is different than my glass carafe version and even then, with the Mr. Coffee I need to align the lid opening to the spout like I do with this version.
I don’t know if it is just the black color of the parts but the brew basket and coffee maker drip arm have remained clean after brewing over the eight months I’ve owned and used it. I reckon that the design of the Cuisinart helps keep the coffee from splashing back onto the drip arm and lid which keeps this area very clean. My ancient Mr. Coffee was hard to keep clean (the water sprinkling area above the coffee basket).
PROS: The coffee maker’s drip arm (so far) remains clean after use. The carafe should last long after the coffee maker stops working.
CONS: I cannot pour every last drop of coffee easily from the stainless steel carafe. The warming pad shuts off after 30 minutes.
Cuisinart 4 cup coffeemaker

I really like this coffeemaker.
Since I am the only coffee drinker
in our household, this is perfect.
It makes just the right amount for one large
mug or two cups and the coffee is excellent and hot.
Don’t Buy- Terrible Carafe!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
My mom bought 3 of these for Christmas: one for me, my sister, and my grandma. The carafe on ALL THREE of them spills when you pour from it. It somehow leaks sneakily down the front as you pour. We’ve all had the problem, so it’s unlikely a user error. I’ve checked to make sure the top is snapped on correctly, I’ve tried pouring at different speeds; nothing helps. My mom also thought they were insulated when she bought it, but it’s not. I’m miserable with the product and would not recommend it.
BEWARE! Terrible return policy
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The coffee maker broke after 5 months of minimal use. Cusianrt has the worst return policy I have ever dealt with. Shipping both ways is the cunsumers resonsibilty and a check for $10 is required for processing. For a product that cost me $29 that is absurd. I’ll never buy another product from them.
NO!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
The Carafe is hard to get into place, and when coffee is done and you try to pull carafe out you end up yanking it and coffee, needless to say, goes everywhere. I returned mine-oh-and the carafe is not insulated.
A nice small coffee maker
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was looking for a white small coffee maker that uses cone filters. I had to choose between DeLonghi and this Cuisinart, and picked this one as this was smaller.
I’ve read enough terrible reviews about it, but I don’t have any problems with spillage both pouring water into the machine or pouring coffee out of the carafe, pushing the on/off button, or metallic taste. I’m very satisfied with this product.
Decent coffee, inexcusable design
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I have used this product for about a year now, and I have no complaints about the quality of the brewed coffee. But because of all of its usability issues, I can’t wait to get rid of this coffee maker.
If you buy this coffee maker, be sure you don’t let the paper towels run out. You will need one to wipe the counter after you fill the reservoir. You’ll need another to wipe the breakfast table after you pour each cup, and probably another to dry the bottom of your coffee mug, if you don’t want coffee dripping onto your lap. Until you’ve learned your lesson, you may have to throw away a few English muffins or bowls of cereal, spoiled by the coffee dripping from the carafe. I have never figured out a way to pour anything from this carafe without its dripping everywhere.
There are other flaws, as well. The on-off switch is a spring-loaded rocker requiring BOTH hands to operate (one to push the switch, one to hold the coffee maker in place). The auto-shutoff is a reassuring feature once you’ve left the house, but the 30-minute countdown starts at the BEGINNING of the brew cycle, not the end, so there’s not quite enough time for me to end my first mug before the second mug is going cold. Indeed, coffee tastes dreadful if it has been on a heater for too long, but this is not quite enough time. About another 15-30 minutes would have been perfect.
Some reviewers have referred to this carafe as “thermal,” which may be misleading. The carafe is made of steel, but it is NOT thermally insulated or double-walled. If the carafe is not sitting on a heating element, the coffee inside will cool quickly. Its only advantage over a glass carafe is that it’s unbreakable. Its main disadvantage is that you can’t see how much coffee is remaining. Also, in my experience the carafe stains and discolors quite easily; the “stainless” steel used in the carafe is probably not of very high quality. Admittedly, one can’t expect to see much 18/10 (high-quality) stainless in a $30 product.
Alas, I’m still searching for the perfect small coffee maker….
A fantastic cup of coffee from a terribly-designed machine
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
When I first used this machine, I couldn’t believe they let it out of the testing labs. Yes, it’s very excellent looking, black and brushed chrome and all that, but what happened to all that fashionable blather about ergonomic design? The people at Cuisinart seem not to have gotten the word. Filling the water reservoir, for example, takes fantastic skill. If you pull the water chamber lid far enough back to fill the chamber comfortably, you’ll snap the lid off. So you have to pull the lid back, but not too far back, which makes filling the chamber extremely awkward.
My solution has been to get it over with, let ‘er rip and just fill it, then wipe up the water I’ve spilled. And if you reckon pouring more slowly makes the slightest bit of difference, reckon again. Water dribbles all over the counter anyway, so pouring more slowly just takes longer and prolongs the discomfort.
It’s the same tale at the end of the process, when the coffee’s ready to pour. You’re guaranteed to spill hot coffee all over, whether you keep the pot lid on or take it off. Not only that; prepare to have your hand scalded by the steam rising out of the pot. I’ve finally mastered the specific contortion necessary to pour coffee without burning myself, but it took time. For a while, I wore oven mitts. No joke.
So why, you might question, is this maddening small appliance still on my kitchen counter? Because it (1) makes a fantastic cup of coffee, and (2) it really keeps the coffee piping hot. If you’ve tried a lot of coffee makers, you already know that while some coffee makers may offer you the former, nearly none offers you the latter. Except for this poorly designed Cuisinart.
Don’t say you weren’t warned.
Don’t Buy This Coffeemaker
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I have had this coffee maker for nine months. It makes excellent coffee but the carafe started leaking from under the rim when we poured the coffee and just kept getting worse. What a mess! I called Cuisinart Customer Service, and, after being kept on hold for about 20 minutes, was told that the carafe wasn’t covered under the warranty. Needless to say, I’m very disgusted and don’t recommend this coffee maker!
Cuisinart DCC-450 4-Cup Coffeemaker
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
The coffee ends up okay. My issue is that the carafe is poorly designed relative to pouring. You must pour really slowly and carefully so as not to have coffee drip all over from the carafe. I just want to pour the coffee and not reckon about it.
Fantastic coffeemaker!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve sure never experienced any of the negatives other reviewers have. I owned mine for about three years; never had a problem with it, until one day it just quit brewing. Three years of daily use, not terrible… I have two others (larger, for “company”) in the closet; drug one of them out but I miss my small Cuisinart, so I’m replacing it. In fact, I’m getting TWO, because I figure they’ll probably stop production by the time I need another. This is the only stainless steel thermal I’ve found that has the heating plate; the ones without it just don’t seem to get the coffee quite hot enough. And the stainless steel? I reckon coffee just tastes better from it!
I like it
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this unit as I am the only person drinking coffee in the house, and I only drink 1-2 cups a day. The coffee is brilliant, and only 1 tsp of ground coffee is needed for a cup. Considering the coffee price, that is a real plus. I like the steel pot, I am sure it won’t break!!!
ok, there is no programming possible, but it takes me 5 min to get my fresh morning coffee cup, so who cares?
Cuisinart DCC-450 4-Cup Coffeemaker
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The Cuisinart DCC-450 4-Cup Coffeemaker makes brilliant coffee. The automatic shutoff is a nice feature, and the lid design holds the heat in well. It is hard to place the carafe back on the hotplate due the length of the shut off valves stem. A larger valve with a shorter stem would help, but the valve seat would need improvement to minimize leaks. Would have preferred a glass carafe, but the brushed stainless doesn’t spot terribly.
coffee drinker

I looked very hard to replace a 4-cup coffee pot which I had had for over 12 years. I like to drink excellent coffee and I typically drink the 4-cups in one sitting – excellent coffee never lasts long in any pot.
I was very reluctant to buy this coffee maker after reading the reviews here, but chose that for the price I could either return it, donate it to charity or toss it if it was that terrible.
Turns out I have not had any serious problems at all and would recommend this to any of my friends looking for a small coffee maker.
To the concerns mentioned by others: The coffee maker is small and lightweight, so yes, pushing the on-button is a tiny hassle, but not much of one. The coffee maker pieces fit tightly together, so yes, you do have to pay attention when brewing a pot but I have had no problems pouring water nor putting the basket in. I have not had a problem with the stainless steel taste, but coffee does not sit in the pot – I pour it when it is done – that is why I use a small coffee maker – a quick 6 minute cylce and I am drinking a fresh coffee.
I am not saying that what others have written is incorrect – it is their experience after all – it is that I just do not see the issues as stopping me from enjoying the coffee made in this coffee maker.
Going in the trash
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Ditto to most of the reviews I have read. I wanted a nice small 4-cup coffee maker, reviews seemed adequate and it looked attractive. I CAN NOT LIVE WITH IT ANYMORE!! You cannot pour water into the machine with the carafe. You have to use something else or it pours all over the counter. Same when you pour coffee. Must be done over the sink or there’s coffee all over the counter. The pause and pour works 50% of the time, therefore more coffee on the counter. The worst though is the taste. I have tried every trick in the book to get rid of the metallic, horrid taste. What is the use in drinking coffee when it tastes so horrible. It is going in the trash today and something, anything will replace it.

I’ve used my new Cuisinart 4-cup for a few weeks now and I like it. It makes a fantastic cup or two of coffee and is simple to clean. Unlike a few other reviewers, I like the lid – it stays on fantastic, controls the pouring to a smooth stream (no gushing) and easily lifts off for cleaning. I have not had any leakage of water from the resevoir to the heating area – it’s a tight unit and works fantastic. I want to get about 15 more minutes in before the auto turn-off feature kicks in on the weekend. I’ve owned Krups, Braun, Mr. Coffee, and a few no-name makes before and this one is the best so far. It’s streamlined and takes up very small counter space – no more worries about chipping or breaking the carafe as it’s stainliess steel. Highly recommended.
Nice Small Coffeepot
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
On the plus side it’s sturdy, and the stainless steel carafe means no worries about breakage. It was also one of the very few small (4 cup) coffee pots available in white. I can’t preset it with my timer to come on in the a.m., which is annoying. Overall, I’m pleased with the buy, and reckon it’s a excellent value for the money.
The Worst!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
..and I’ve owned a lot of coffee makers! This one is an embarrassment to the Cuisinart name. There is one lid covering both the water reservoir and the coffee basket. It is positioned on two tiny plastic tabs (the kind on a CD jewel case). One of them was broken off when the unit arrived, but I just wasn’t up to sending it back, so I kept it. This flimsy lid is attached to the mechanism that sends the water through the coffee, which is also attached with a very flimsy plastic lever. I can’t imagine why they used this odd design. It’s hard to visualize, and I wish they showed a photo. The lid of the stainless steel carafe is very difficut to remove and the numbers are hard to read inside (since you can’t look through glass). The switch is the worst part of all. You push it the same direction for on or off, with it returning to the original position. You can only tell whether it is on or off by looking at the very dim light. I had to shade it with my hand to tell whether it was on or off. It is inconveniently located at the back of one side. I’m guessing Cuisinart will remove this one from the market soon. Don’t buy it!
excellent cup of coffee
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is a nice small coffee pot. It keeps the coffee very hot. There are a couple of flaws but they are minor. It is alittle hard to read the measurements on the inside of the pot and it is also hard to get out the very last drop of coffee, but who cares! It makes a excellent cup of coffee. That’s all I require. I’d certainly recommend it.
Substandard Cuisinarts Product
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
My wife worked for Cuisinarts. She thought their products were brilliant. I own a Cuisinarts Convection Oven that is really super. Their four-cup coffeemaker, sorry to say, is junk – well below Cuisinarts standards. It drips and dribbles. It is awkward to fill. Wait until the first time you start to pour out some scalding hot coffee and the coffee dribbles all over the table, the up-coming steam hits your bare hand, you go your hand and the top of the pot falls off and coffee spills all over! The coffee it brews but is tasty. I would not recommend this pot.
Very cute but major design flaws
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
We allowed this cute small machine drive us crazy for 15 days before we returned it.
1. The pot doesn’t pour properly and it spills.
2. The water tank’s lid doesn’t open and close smoothly.
3. The power switch is impossible to operate with one hand. If you just push it (and the verb “push” is appropriate here), you’ll be pushing the machine across the counter. First, you have to hold the machine with one hand so that it won’t go when you are pushing the power switch with the other hand.
4. The lid of the pot doesn’t sit in properly. It comes undone at the handle side.
5. The coffee gets cold quickly. (As noted by another reviewer, the stainless steel is not fantastic for this function. It takes longer to warm the steel so the heat of the coffee is lost to the steel.)
My mistakes:
1. I thought auto-shut-off was a excellent thought. I thought 30 minutes would be enough to consume my morning coffee quota. As it turns out, I need more time. By the time I end my second cup, the machine is already turned off and the coffee is cold.
2. Apparently there were excellent reasons why coffee pots were made out of glass. You can see through. You can see how much coffee is left. And there is no risk of making your fresh coffee on top of the leftover from yesterday. I thought I could live with a non-transparent coffee pot (just be organized, dump the leftover as soon as it becomes leftover, and rinse; don’t forget to check before you make new coffee) but I am not that clean and tidy.
We despised this machine. What a shame! It looked so cute, especially in red.
Nearly excellent til the last drop
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was given a 12-cup coffee maker as a housewarming gift. Although it worked nicely, I live alone and found that when I made a half-pot, the coffee never came out quite right. It was also a pain to clean.
I like the Cuisinart 4-cup because it makes the perfect amount for me to have a large mug while I’m getting ready for work, and then take the rest with me in a travel mug. The coffee turns out fantastic every time. It is simple enough for me to clean and set up during my morning (pre-coffee) stupor. It doesn’t take up a lot of space on my counter.
The one drawback of the product is that it has a 30-min automatic shut-off feature. On weekends, I take a small longer to make it through the pot, and often it shuts off before I’ve finished all of the coffee. The stainless steel carafe does not keep it as hot as I expected (I was expecting it to be thermal, but I suppose that was my own misconception).
On the other hand, the auto shut-off has saved me from many a burned carafe, so I would say that is only a conditional flaw.
I LIKE THIS SMALL MACHINE
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a fantastic coffeemaker. I grind my own beans, place in about 5 level tablespoons, add slightly more than 4 cups into the reservoir and voila! Perfect coffee everytime. I originally bought this for my mother for Christmas, and after using it with her at home over the holidays, I ordered myself one! Its small and fantastic for small spaces, and it makes the perfect amount for one or two people. It works very well and is worth every penny.
