This is a excellent percolator with some limitations

It is excellent one. But, we always get some coffee bean in the coffee. I have tried using coarsely ground powder, but the result is the same. The gasket appears very delicate. Bit hard to clean.

Brilliant piece of work and it looks well place together. No leaks, works very smoothly.

So far, it works fine. My housemate accidentally ran it dry and burned a pot, but other than some funky discoloration of the steel, it is intact, including the handle, which others have had problems with. Perhaps that was a design issue they have since changed? I am also very excellent about not using the handle to screw and unscrew the parts.

p.s.: I liked Davi Grant’s hose thought, although I haven’t tried it yet.

Very nicely constructed. Ton’s better than the Aluminum ones that I have been using currently. Delivers the coffee quicker and without that bitter taste. Simple to clean I like it!

Inexpensive and simple way to make a cappuccino
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The quality is just ‘ok’ as it is made in India rather than Italy and you can easily see it when you unpack it. The handle feels a bit cheap, the lid also looks like it could break if you ain’t careful and the metal also has some defects.

But for the price it is rather brilliant at what it does, which are espressos. You just fill it up with water, add you favorite coffee and in less than 5 minutes you are done!

If you do it properly the espresso it produces is fantastic and you save quite a bit of money by avoiding the expensive options. And since I’m using it only for my personal morning and evening cups of cappuccino I don’t see the point on spending $300 to $400 dollars on a huge machine.

You are better of using that money on getting a high quality grinder, gourment coffee grains and some very nice Italian coffee cups or glasses.

Is the handle supposed to fall off mid-pour??
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I’ve been using this for about 5 months and was very pleased with it, and then one day the handle just came unattached from the pot while I was pouring coffee! I was checking the reviews to see if this happened to any one else…. Makes me a small nervous about buying another…

With this item, you can make Starbucks Latte at home. It tastes the same if you use Starbucks Espresso.

    Tasty Coffee
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is perfect for making a single cup of rich coffee. The 4-cup version makes the equivalent of 1 American-size cup of coffee. I could never get a excellent single cup from a drip maker without having to make more than I would use. Quick and simple to use. Use freshly ground dark roast beans.

    EXCELLENT 2-CUP STOVETOP
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Excellent I read the reviews! Right, it is standard 2-cup (small expresso cups that is. Works fine, I bought it as 2-cup pot, for I read reviews, otherwise if getting the incorrect size would be disappointed greatly.

Made in India, not Italy. Again, I read reviews, knew that, so have no issues with it. Essy to clean, looks excellent, works OK. Misleading description.

Amazon, we depend on your descriptions! They may be small, but what it is made of, where it was made, and capacity. Is it too much to question?

    problems closing it, terrible design
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This percolator gets jammed every single time you try to close it together. The closing system does not screw together seamlessly, and that affects the brew. Either water or pressure escapes through –and both of those are terrible news. The coffee wont rise.. or will be too thick. Or burn because you keep waiting for more water to come up and it has in fact spilled through the sides. All kinds of gentle / pressure tactics have been attempted with no luck.. I am very very upset. It doesn’t work :-(

    Fantastic small espresso maker!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I wanted an inexpensive method to make a decent cup of espresso and this is it. The stainless steel is highly polished, the quality of the welds is brilliant and the pieces fit together fantastic. It is very simple to use and I like the fact I don’t have to use filters.

I also bought an electric milk frother. Using Starbucks Espresso Roast I am able to make Latte’s just as excellent as Starbucks. My eggnog latte is even better than theirs.

    New Cooktop
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
~I am purchasing because we are moving to an induction cooktop. We have had and loved our aluminum one from Italy! I don’t believe the hype on the affect it “may” have and alzhiemers. The below is taken from WEB MD.

“On the other hand, various studies have found that groups of people exposed to high levels of aluminum do not have an increased risk. Moreover, aluminum in cooking utensils does not get into food, and the aluminum that does occur naturally in some foods, such as potatoes, is not absorbed well by the body. On the whole, scientists can say only that it is still uncertain whether exposure to aluminum plays a role in Alzheimer’s disease.”

    Modern & Functional
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The Bialetti Stovetop Percolator makes fantastic espresso, just like any traditional espresso stovetop coffee pot and is simple to use. The sleek lines make it more attractive and modern looking and the quality of the coffee it brews is brilliant. Highly recommend.

    A couple of suggestions…
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought my pot 3 years ago and it still works fantastic. I changed the gasket one time. I’ve found it is better to leave it alone for the best seal. Also I modified the pot by putting a rubber hose (I used fuel line hose) on the end of the spout and having the coffee go directly into the cup. That way all the crema goes right into the cup. Otherwise when you pour the coffee into the cup, somehow the crema seems to disappear before one gets to sip it.

    Excellent and simple

Excellent coffee, and simpler to use than the Moka Express.

I did have to return the first one for a leak, but the second one was worth the wait.

  16. Annie08 says:

Pretty excellent but made in India, not Italy!
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I feel a small duped by Amazon with this one. It says the product is made in Italy but when I received it, the box said it was made in India. It bothers me that I paid extra for an Italian-made espresso machine, only to get one that is not authentic Italian at all. I’m sure it is just oversight on Amazon’s part, but, because this is really the first problem I’ve had with them.

The product works well enough. I was able to use it after about 20 minutes of washing out the rust and grease which were really hard to remove. Also, there were no instructions on how to use the product in the box.

** UPDATE 10/24/08 – sending back because the coffee has started to take on a weird chemical taste that no amount of washing will get rid of. Not sure if it is coming from the rubber seal or the other metals in the device. I switched espresso and only use pure, filtered water so I can’t see how it is anything but the pot itself.

    Not working properly
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I’ve been using these types of moka makers for years (I used to live in Italy), so I know what I’m doing here. The Bialetti I got simply doesn’t work properly. It doesn’t build up enough pressure to push all the water through the coffee, unless you only fill it up with half of the suggested amount of coffee. I use illy’s fine grind espresso coffee which is standard. And who would go through the distress of returning a $30 coffee maker? This is truly the downside of shopping online.

    Brilliant coffee
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Bought the 4 cup Bialetti stove top coffee maker. It produces the best coffee I have had outside of Italy. I would highly recommend this coffee maker. Make sure you have your coffee ground for use with stovetop coffee makers! It does make a difference.

Avoid the Corrosion of the Aluminum Models
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This small stainless steel Moka pot has served me well over the past seven months. It makes the same potent brew as the traditional aluminum model, but will not corrode or build up nasty deposits in a small amount of time like the aluminum pots. I feel that in the long term it is well worth the small bit of extra money. I also like the classic minimalist deign.

    Fantastic product, fantastic coffee
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
After about a month, I’m very pleased with this buy. I originally bought it to have something small for my boyfriend’s apartment, but was hoping to re-make the coffee when I lived in Spain. It worked so well on both counts that I bought another (the aluminum version) for my own apartment. I still have a regular American drip coffee maker for when I want several cups of coffee or have guests, but use this most of the time. I can’t really detect any difference in taste between the stainless steel and the aluminum, although I have to be much more careful to wash and dry immediately the aluminum.

    Fine, High-Quality Stovetop Espresso Maker
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve been using my 4-cup Bialetti for nearly a half year now. Unlike other reviewers, I’ve not had any problem with the gasket. (I don’t remove it for each cleaning since the gasket is the weak spot.) My girlfriend has the six-cup model and this smaller Bialetti is perfect for about two cafe-lattes. I delight in the ritual of making espresso on stovetop on those morning I’m not compelled to rush drip grind through my standard machines. I like coffee. :-)

This small unit is also simply a gorgeous work of art. The stainless steel construction is solid, and the components such as the filters are suitable for reasonably heavy use. The Bialetti makes better espresso than my Mr. Coffee four-cup machine.

Makes a excellent cup of espresso
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I chose this stainless model because I had read about health issues related to using aluminum. From what I could find studies have shown that the amount of aluminum in coffee made with aluminum pots is high enough to be concerned about. With that said I’m very pleased with this buy. It makes fantastic coffee and is simple to use and clean. I have used generic aluminum percolators before and the coffee was a bit stronger, but I feel the benefit of using a non-aluminum pot is worth the small sacrifice in the strength of the coffee. If the coffee that this pot produced was a tad bit stronger I would have given it a five star rating. There is a simple solution to get the coffee a small stronger though. Just use a small less water, making a 3-cup serving instead of 4.

Another Fantastic Bialetti Stovetop Moka/Espresso Maker
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was just about ready to buy an aluminum Bialetti when I read a review about the connection to Alzheimers and chose this was only about five dollars more and it is more attractive. I figured as long as it was a Bialetti, I couldn’t go incorrect. If you want espresso at home, there is really no reason to fork over major dough when just a few more minutes and small more time, you get the same thing. The Bialetti(s) are a right hidden Italian treasure. If you like strong, tasty espresso this is fantastic. I am looking forward to trying other blends of coffee with this. I originally tried this with Starbuck’s Caffe Verona which is a Bold blend. I recalled the first espresso I ever had at Starbucks and it tasted exactly the same. Some people would disagree, but there is no debate that this is at the very worst, very, very similar to the best possible espresso. If you want fantastic espresso and a excellent looking moka pot this is fantastic.

Slick and simple – makes fantastic coffee. Directions say that water left in bottom of the pot keeps it from scorching the bottom, but I haven’t had any water left in the bottom. I just stay nearby and remove it from the heat as soon as coffee is done. I like it!

this was a huge disappointment. I paid 30 dollars for something that was supposed to work ON THE STOVE TOP and yet the sixth or seventh time i used it the handle melted and came off in my hand, filling the kitchen with a toxic, horribly smelling smoke. And no, the fire wasn’t too strong. Who do I see to get my money back????

Clean lines, stainless steel, makes this a perfect espresso maker. (Though it might be silly, I was concerned about the links between aluminum and Alzheimer’s…especially drinking coffee daily.) Nice enough looking to serve on the table.

Make Coffee Like Italian Houswives Do
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
With this sleek small pot, you can make espresso on the stovetop like they do in Italy. The Venus Bialetti is simple to use– if you use a countertop drip maker, you can handle this. It takes only 3 minutes on my stove to make 4 shots.

I have been using this daily for a small over a year, usually one pot for myself and one for my husband and the gasket is still doing well.

It does not make the same quality as an industrial espresso maker but it certainly out performs the various countertop models I’ve tried. I would even go out on a limb and say that a countertop model that outperforms this would be in a price range of roughly 10 times this cost. Those take up a lot more real estate in small kitchen too.

The Bialetti Venus is also adorable. Not that I want to marry my espresso pot or anything. . .
